Rough trip today. I scanned my card at the "red box" upon entering the store, and evidently the printer was out of paper because nothing came out, but I got a message "your coupons have printed!" This happens all too often to me, not just at that store.

Checked out at my usual SCO, and the paper was out of the receipt printer, too. (Not the first time for this, either, but this store is notorious for that and I always approach the SCO cautiously.) One time when this happened, the associate couldn't fix it, but today I was lucky (?!?) and the associate was able to print a duplicate receipt which I needed for ibotta.

This isn't my #1 store, but they usually do have everything in stock, so there's that. Hat tip to @VP22 and @IreneY for the A&D Ointment tip - I'm gonna rock this deal next week too.

This MIGHT be how it works. If the Axe is at least $7 then the $7/2 will deduct $7. If the Axe is less than $7, buy 2 of the same scent and the full $7 will come off. Buy 2 different scents under $7, and the DQ will reduce to the value of 1 of the 2 items.

I have made and still make a few mistakes like that :)

One thing that helps is putting together the same deal in an online cart and making sure everything is as expected.

Also, if in any doubt, just abort the transaction, I used to feel a bit shy about that but now I try not to.

CVS also doesnt help much, like 2 weeks ago, they mentioned a dq for the smaller Colgate Total's but then excluded those from the dq which typically never happens.

I am posting this as I saw some conflicting posts about this, so I decided to test for myself.
I bought a few items online for the $10/$25 sun care promo last week. I just picked up my purchase and the $10 showed up an hour later, it really made me anxious for a while :)

The online rewards tracker that shows in the cart has been updated to not exclude the EBs, DQs and CRTs used from the the spend amount, and the system also provides EBs in the same way (similar to a store purchase but without the 98% rule) so all good there. Most of the CVS and EC agents will tell you the opposite, so the only risk here is that if for some other reason it doesnt work, it will be very difficult to convince those ignorant folks.

But the tracker also has a flaw, if the item is on sale (regular or clearance sale), it takes the pre sale price into account which is incorrect and you wont get the EBs if you just go by that total. In case of sale prices, go by the after sale price and calculate the total yourself and make sure it is more than the spend threhold.

An update, I picked up my purchase and the $10 eb showed up half an hour later. I made sure to spend $25 considering the after sale prices. My oop was less that an a dollar, the EBs, DQs and CRTs used did not reduce the spend amount.
